Scam involving the manufacture and distribution of more than 200 fraudulent credit cards a week.

Seven people have been arrested in Sydney and Melbourne over a scam involving the manufacture and distribution of more than 200 fraudulent credit cards a week.

The Identity Security Strike Team (ISST) said that more than 1200 credit card numbers have been involved in the scam since March 2009 which have been used to purchase about $500,000 worth of items every week, a total of $6m to date.

As the risk of credit card fraud continues, Ukash, which offers shoppers a safe way to shop, pay and play online using cash, is encouraging customers to be aware of the dangers of using credit cards online.

Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash, explained, "The risk of online identity theft is still high and if customers' credit card details are stolen they could potentially lose thousands of dollars. By using alternative payment methods, such as Ukash which allows online shoppers to use cash online, consumers can limit liability and protect their details.
