Peace of mind that money can buy
As more varied methods of payments emerge, security fears from
consumers grow. Digital cash vouchers provide an alternative way to
pay online that is safe and secure
It's fantastic that there are all of these emerging ways to pay
such as mobile payments, NFC (near field communication) phones,
electronic wallets, biometric payment authentication technologies,
and contactless cards. There's no doubt that the world of
alternative payments is positively buzzing.
But it should not be forgotten that there are many customers who
are concerned about such new technologies, and even of using
traditional payment cards to make purchases - particularly over the
internet.
These are not just people without bank accounts. They represent
a much broader spread of individuals - in fact, 38 per cent of UK
consumers do not shop online. They consist of people with privacy
concerns who are scared of identity theft, individuals who want to
keep a tight control over their budgets, and younger shoppers who
do not have access to their own credit and debit cards.
As an alternative payment method, Ukash enables this wide-ranging group to buy goods
and services online by acting just like cash. Shoppers simply
exchange coins and notes for a 19-digit Ukash voucher code at more
than 50,000 convenience stores and newsagents around the country
that have electronic top-up terminals.
These vouchers can then be used to pay directly for goods and
services on websites that accept Ukash (or alternatively loaded on
to prepaid cards or e-wallets) by entering the unique voucher code
at the checkout stage.
More than 5,000 websites in the UK currently accept Ukash including Skype, William Hill, Madbid and Facebook. They have
recognised that offering customers this alternative way to pay
helps them open their business to new customers, new markets and
also increases conversion rates.
Ukash also helps
companies extend their global reach because it has established a
global footprint in more than 50 countries - across 20 currencies -
that often have relatively low credit and debit card usage and
where cash alternatives are a necessity for customers wanting to
make online purchases.
In these tough economic times, such a solution - which fully
opens up the online channel - should be a welcome relief to the
UK's retailers and consumers who both now regard the internet as an
increasingly vital part of their lives.
