Making Ukash convenient and easy to get is vital to its success.
Working with our issuing partners and their retailer customers to
make Ukash available to consumers delivers benefits to all
parties.
For the retailer Ukash becomes a valuable new revenue stream,
with individual Ukash vouchers being typically larger value than
mobile top-ups.
In South Africa Ukash worked with The Prepaid Company, a leading
provider of electronic prepaid products, to make Ukash available at
Pick n Pay, one of the country's leading retailers.
The Pick n Pay Group is one of Africa's largest and most
consistently successful retailers of food, clothing and general
merchandise. Pick n Pay has over 750 outlets across South Africa
and has built up an enviable reputation both locally and
internationally, with their CEO winning the 2009 International
Retailer of the Year award in 2009 from the National Retail
Federation, the world's largest retail trade association.
Technology from The Prepaid Company enabled Ukash vouchers to be
made available on every PoS terminal in every Pick n Pay store. The
location and opening hours of Pick n Pay stores mean that Ukash
vouchers in 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 1500 Rand
denominations, are available easily and conveniently to most of the
population in South Africa.
Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash explains, "By partnering with one
of South Africa's leading retailers we are increasing the
availability of Ukash to consumers wanting to use e-cash. Ukash is
quickly establishing itself as a mainstream solution for online
payments in South Africa, introducing new consumers to Internet
commerce and bringing enormous opportunities for growth to
retailers".
Ukash vouchers are available from every checkout in Pick n Pay
stores across the country. Consumers simply exchange cash for a
Ukash voucher and receive a receipt with a ready-to-spend, 19-digit
secure PIN code. This can be used to pay directly at the growing
number of South African websites and mobile sites which accept
Ukash, including retailers such as wantitall.co.za, bidorbuy and
social networks mig33 and mibli.
"With the growth of e-commerce and online retailing,
Pick n Pay is keen to meet the demand for customers wanting to use
cash to shop online. Ukash is a secure, tested solution and we are
confident that it will be successful across our
stores".
