According to research, online fraudsters stole half a billion pounds worth of goods in the UK last year

Research from security company The 3rd Man shows that last year online fraudsters stole half a billion pounds worth of goods in the UK.

The company's research has allowed them to build an 'online crime hotspot' map - showing the places in the UK that have been worst affected by online fraud.

Top of the list is a small town in County Durham, Shildon, where 24% of all internet purchases were made using stolen credit card details.

The problem of online fraud has a huge impact on both consumers and retailers and alternative payment provider Ukash recommends that companies diversify their payment options to help fight online crime.

By offering Ukash as a payment option retailers could deliver without risk to any address, even known card crime hotspots. Ukash's proposition incorporates 'assured payments'  which would provide retailers with a more cost-effective way of operating, compared to the costs of chargebacks, lost goods or expensive alternative anti-fraud solutions.

Consumers choose to use Ukash to protect their financial details and use cash to shop, pay and play online. Ukash vouchers can be purchased from over 275,000 outlets in stores around the globe, and consumers are issued with a ready-to-spend unique 19-digit PIN voucher which can be used to shop safely online.
