Tesco, the British-based international grocery and merchandising
retail chain, has confirmed its plan to develop its grocery
website, reflecting the growing importance of online retailing to
the company's strategy.
The company has not yet confirmed what specific developments
will be made to the website, but it acknowledges the importance of
improving its online retail offering.
According to the British Retail Consortium, the growth of online
retailing has continued to outperform the UK retail market during
the economic downturn. Total sales in the UK retail market rose
3.2% while online sales increased 16.8% year-on-year.
Similar trends are also appearing in Australia as one of the
country's major retailers, Coles, has shown confidence in the
future of online grocery sales and has also announced an expansion
in the online sector.
Mark Chirnside, CEO said: "As more major retailers recognise the
importance of improving the online retailing sector of their
company, they should also explore alternative payment solutions to
ensure they are appealing to all of their customers who have the
opportunity to shop in their store. Ukash is a safe, online payment
method which allows consumers to pay online with cash, and allows
online retailers to increase sales by tailoring its payment options
to even more people."
Ukash, which is based in the UK and is regulated by the
Financial Services Authority (FSA), has an existing global network
of 275,000 issuing points and is also available online in the UK.
Ukash currently processes several million transactions annually
with values in excess of €100m. www.ukash.com.
