Sugar magazine and Ukash give teens online cash

28/1/2008

Sugar Magazine and web cash brand Ukash are to launch a reader-offer allowing its young teen readers to spend their own cash online using a unique Ukash card included in the March issue.

Although most banks allow you to open an account from the age of 11, most don’t issue a debit card until the age of 16, therefore preventing youngsters from spending their money on the internet. With social networking and games websites becoming increasingly popular, kids either have to either borrow their parents’ debit or credit cards, or simply go without. Ukash provides a solution to this, by allowing its users to spend cash online.

So, with every March issue of Sugar Magazine, Ukash will give away a £5 voucher to demonstrate how easy it is to use cash for internet transactions and allowing readers to trial its service on a selection of popular social networking and games websites.

With internet spending and usage continually growing, a significant proportion of which is amongst teenagers, Ukash offers a quick, easy and secure way to spend cash online – great for kids who don’t yet have debit cards. And unlike debit and credit cards, there are no hidden charges with Ukash. The £5 Ukash voucher will be included in each copy of the magazine, and supported with a 4-page advertorial to explain how and where to get and spend Ukash.

Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash says, “We are pleased to be working alongside Sugar to enable its readers to learn about spending their own money, safely, online. Ukash is free to use too, unlike some prepaid debit cards or telephone billing schemes. “
