Love is in the air as “Virtual Valentines” use VoIP to declare their love

Ukash sales figures show 29% increase in VoIP calls as customers used the internet to call their loved ones this Valentine's Day.

Ukash, the international provider of online payments with cash, reported an unexpected surge in customers using its prepaid vouchers to use VoIP* this weekend - as consumers used the internet to call their loved ones this Valentine's Day.

Ukash figures show that between Friday 13th and Saturday 14th there was a 29% increase in Ukash vouchers being used to make VoIP calls. This increase is ten times more than the same time period the previous week and shows that consumers are happy to use modern technology to whisper sweet nothings to their nearest and dearest on even the most romantic of occasions.

Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash explains "It makes sense for people to use VoIP to stay in touch with loved ones but we did not expect to see such an uplift in our sales from our VoIP merchants on one single day. It seems that modern day Romeos are using more convenient and affordable ways to declare their love and using Ukash to pay for VoIP allows consumers to buy online safely and avoid the risk of online fraud - which is the last thing you want on Valentine's Day."

Ukash, which has experienced a 140% increase in sales in the last year, provides a simple and secure way for consumers to buy goods and services online with its prepaid vouchers, available at 275,000 locations across Europe and South Africa, via mobile in the UK and now also online in most territories.

A recent research showed Ukash's average customer in the UK is in full time employment, has a bank account and a credit or debit card but prefers alternative and safer payment methods to transact online.

*VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks.
